Trade-In Terms

Last updated: 1 September 2026

1. Who we are and what the Trade-in service is

1.1 The Trade-in service is operated by I Repair Dar Limited ("PhoneMart", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17455371, registered office 40 Northgate, Darlington, DL1 1PP.

1.2 Trade-in lets you sell us a used smartphone, tablet, laptop or other eligible device. PhoneMart buys the Device directly from you. There is no third-party refurbisher or intermediary: we quote, we inspect, and we pay.

1.3 These Trade-in Terms govern every trade-in you submit through the Site. By submitting a trade-in you confirm that you have read and accept them and that you are entitled to sell the Device. Our Terms of Use continue to apply to your use of the Site; where the two conflict in relation to a trade-in, these Trade-in Terms take priority.

1.4 There is no fee for using Trade-in. You arrange and pay for posting the Device to us. If a trade-in does not complete and the Device is returned to you, we pay the return postage except in the circumstance described in section 11.3.

1.5 We may update these Terms. The version shown on the Site when you submit a trade-in is the one that applies to that trade-in.

3. Who can use Trade-in

3.1 Trade-in is available to individuals aged 18 or over who are resident in the United Kingdom and who own the Device outright. If you are 16 or 17 you may use Trade-in only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

3.2 Trade-in is for private individuals selling their own devices. It is not available to businesses, resellers or anyone selling in bulk. We may refuse or limit trade-ins that appear to be commercial in nature.

3.3 You must have a UK bank account in your own name to receive payment.

4. Getting a quote

4.1 To get a Quote, select your Device on the Site and answer the questions about its model, storage, network lock status and condition. Answer honestly and completely: the Quote is calculated entirely from your answers, and any difference found at Inspection will affect the price (section 6).

4.2 The Quote is valid for 2 days from the date it is issued. To lock the price you must confirm your Trade-in Order within those 2 days; after that the Quote expires and you will need to request a new one. Once confirmed, we must receive the Device within 7 days for the Quote to hold. If the Device arrives after that, we will inspect it and issue a fresh offer at the then-current price, which you may accept or decline under section 7.

4.3 Submitting a Trade-in Order does not sell the Device to us yet. The sale is completed when we confirm the final price after Inspection and you accept it, or when the Quote is confirmed unchanged (section 9).

4.4 Quotes are for the Device only. Do not send accessories, cases, chargers, SIM cards or memory cards; we cannot return them and they do not increase the price.

5. Sending us your Device

5.1 Once your Trade-in Order is confirmed we will email you packing instructions and the address to send the Device to: I Repair Dar Limited, 40 Northgate, Darlington, DL1 1PP. You arrange and pay for postage. Package the Device securely, ideally in a rigid box with padding. Damage caused by inadequate packaging is your responsibility and will be reflected in the Revised Offer.

5.2 Before you post the Device you must:

  • back up any data you want to keep;
  • sign out of all accounts and remove any activation lock (Apple ID / Find My iPhone, Google account / Find My Device, Samsung account, and so on);
  • remove any SIM card and memory card;
  • perform a factory reset.

See section 10 for what happens if a lock remains on the Device.

5.3 Send the Device by a tracked, signed-for service insured to at least the Quote value (for example Royal Mail Special Delivery), and keep proof of posting. The Device remains your responsibility until we receive and sign for it. If it is lost or damaged in transit, your claim is against the carrier, which is why insured postage matters; we will provide any confirmation the carrier needs from us.

5.4 We must receive the Device within 7 days of you confirming the Trade-in Order. If we have not received it within 30 days we will cancel the Trade-in Order.

6. Inspection and revised offers

6.1 When your Device arrives we will inspect and test it against the Declared Condition, usually within 2 working days. We check identity (IMEI / serial), functionality (screen, touch, buttons, cameras, speakers, microphone, connectivity, charging, battery health), cosmetic condition, network lock status, account locks and whether the Device is reported lost, stolen or blocked.

6.2 If the Device matches the Declared Condition, we confirm the Quote as the final price and proceed to payment.

6.3 If the Device does not match the Declared Condition, for example it has a cracked screen you did not declare, a different storage capacity, lower battery health, a network lock or a fault, we will email you a Revised Offer explaining what we found and the adjusted price. Photos are provided where the difference is cosmetic or physical.

6.4 We may make a zero-value Revised Offer or decline the Device entirely if it is:

  • reported lost or stolen, or blocked on any network blacklist;
  • a counterfeit or a model different from the one declared;
  • still locked to a user account after we have asked you to remove the lock (section 10);
  • bent, crushed, liquid-damaged beyond repair, or otherwise without any recoverable value;
  • outside the categories we accept.

7. Accepting or declining a revised offer

7.1 You have 2 days from the date of the Revised Offer email to accept or decline it through the link in the email or through your account.

7.2 If you accept, the Revised Offer becomes the final price and we proceed to payment.

7.3 If you do not respond, we will send you at least one reminder. If we still hear nothing, we may treat the Revised Offer as accepted and pay you that amount, or contact you to arrange the return of the Device. We will not do either without reminding you first.

7.4 If you decline, we will return the Device to the address on your Trade-in Order at no charge. The one exception is a Device that has been reported lost or stolen or is blacklisted: see section 11.3. Returned Devices are dispatched within 5 working days of your decline.

7.5 If the Device is confirmed to have no recoverable value and you ask for it back, we will return it free of charge. If you do not ask for it back within 7 days of a zero-value offer, we will recycle it responsibly.

8. Payment

8.1 We pay by bank transfer to the UK bank account in your name that you provide in your Trade-in Order. Payment is sent within 3 working days of the final price being agreed and usually arrives within one further working day.

8.2 You may instead choose to receive payment as PhoneMart Store Credit, which is applied to your PhoneMart account immediately on confirmation of the final price. Where we offer a Store Credit bonus, the bonus is subject to the Store Credit terms in our Terms of Use.

8.3 If you provide incorrect bank details, we will contact you to correct them. We are not liable for payments sent to an account you specified in error, but we will help you recover them where we can.

9. Transfer of ownership

9.1 Ownership of the Device passes to PhoneMart when the final price is agreed under sections 6.2, 7.2 or 7.3. Until then the Device remains yours, and we will return it if the trade-in does not complete.

9.2 Once ownership has passed and payment has been made, the sale is final. You cannot request the Device back, and we may refurbish, resell, part out or recycle it.

10. Your data and account locks

10.1 You are solely responsible for backing up and erasing your data before sending the Device. We are not responsible for any data, content or accounts left on a Device.

10.2 As part of Inspection we perform a certified data erasure on every Device that completes a trade-in. We do not access, copy or retain your personal data.

10.3 If we receive a Device with an activation lock or account lock still enabled, we will email you instructions for removing it remotely. You have 7 days to remove the lock. If it is not removed, we will issue a zero-value Revised Offer and return the Device to you.

10.4 Do not send a Device that you cannot unlock. We cannot bypass or remove account locks, and doing so would be unlawful.

11. Your promises to us

11.1 By submitting a Trade-in Order you confirm that:

  • you are the legal owner of the Device and have the right to sell it;
  • the Device is not subject to any finance agreement, hire purchase, lease or other claim, or if it is, the agreement permits sale and any balance is settled;
  • the Device has not been reported lost or stolen and is not blacklisted;
  • the Declared Condition is accurate to the best of your knowledge;
  • you have removed all personal data and account locks;
  • you are not selling in the course of a business.

11.2 If any of these statements turns out to be untrue, we may cancel the trade-in, reclaim any payment made, and return or dispose of the Device as the law requires.

11.3 Lost, stolen or blacklisted Devices. We check every Device against the national lost-and-stolen databases. If a Device is flagged, we are required by law to withhold it and notify the police or the registered owner. We will not pay for such a Device, and we may not be able to return it to you. We may also report the trade-in attempt to the relevant authorities.

12. Cancelling a trade-in

12.1 You may cancel a Trade-in Order at any time before we receive the Device. Simply do not post it, or contact us and we will cancel the order.

12.2 If you have already posted the Device, you may still withdraw it until the final price is agreed. Contact us and we will return the Device to you free of charge.

12.3 Once the final price is agreed and ownership has passed (section 9), the trade-in cannot be cancelled.

13. Liability

13.1 We are responsible for the Device from the moment we sign for it until it is either dispatched back to you or ownership passes to us. Our liability for loss or damage in that period is limited to the Quote value.

13.2 We are not liable for Devices lost or damaged in transit to us, or sent to the wrong address.

13.3 Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law.

14. Personal data

We process the personal data you provide (name, address, contact details, bank details and the Device's IMEI or serial number) to operate the Trade-in service, verify ownership and comply with our legal obligations. Details of how we handle your data are in our Privacy Policy on the Site.

15. Governing law and disputes

15.1 These Trade-in Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

15.2 If you have a complaint about a trade-in, contact us at [email protected] or by WhatsApp chat (+44 7913 170620, 9am to 9pm UK time) and we will try to resolve it with you directly.

15.3 PhoneMart is not a member of an alternative dispute resolution scheme. If we cannot resolve it, you may seek free guidance from the Citizens Advice consumer service. You may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales; if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also use the courts where you live.

PhoneMart is a trading name of I Repair Dar Limited, registered in England and Wales, company number 17455371, registered office 40 Northgate, Darlington, DL1 1PP.
